What to Talk About With Your Boyfriend

By on August 3, 2016

One of the most important things in any relationship is communication. You have to be able to openly and honestly talk to each other without anything stopping you. However, sometimes you can run out of things to talk about and be left in awkward silence – and nobody likes that.

We all have to have different things to talk to our boyfriends about without having to sit in utter silence for hours on end. If you frequently run out of things to say or what to talk about when you’re on a date or even when you’re just spending time together, these topics can help.

  1. His Favorite Foods

I’m sure by now you know a few foods that he prefers to eat but do you know all of his favorite. What’s the one food that he could eat for the rest of his life if he wasn’t allowed to eat anything else? Finding out what kinds of foods he loves can spark up a great conversation about his likes and dislikes when it comes to food and this can come in handy if you ever want to surprise him with something yummy to eat!

  1. Current Events

There is an awful lot going on in the world today, both good and bad. Talk about any current events and how they feel about them. Asking about their opinions can open up a huge conversation about your morals and values and it can help you connect with him in a way that others can’t. Hearing how he feels about certain issues will help you discover if he really is a good match for you.

  1. Comic Books

I’m pretty sure the majority of guys love to talk about comic books or maybe even you do! Open up a conversation about which comic books they love or if they even like them in the first place. You can get the conversation rolling onto so many different subjects related to this that you’ll be talking for hours. You might just end up talking about the movie remakes of famous comics and how you think they were portrayed.

  1. Sports

The large majority of men like to talk about sports. Even if they’re not really into a specific team, they probably have opinions on the rules, different players, and a lot of what goes on in the sports world. You can just ask them a simple question about who they want to win the game that weekend and watch them go nuts over this topic. It’s a great go-to if you’re ever at a loss for a topic because sports are always changing.

  1. Places You Both Want to Visit

Talk about where you want to go in the world. The world is such a big place with so many different cultures you can experience. Ask him where he wants to go in the world and why. You’ll more than likely stay on this topic for a long time because it can cover a lot of other topics, too. You can also bring up where you’ve already traveled to and why you liked or disliked it. This can help you understand if you travel goals are compatible, too.

  1. What You Wanted to be When You Were Little

We were all 5 years old at one point. During this age, many adults like to ask us what we want to be when we grow up and our answers are usually along the lines of a doctor, lawyer, or even a superhero. Talk to him about what you wanted to be when you were little and ask what he wanted to be. This can help you understand just how much he’s changed or even just how much he’s stayed the same. You may also get a laugh about what you thought your life would be like when you were little.

  1. Old Cartoons You Wish Still Ran

Cartoons nowadays just aren’t the same as they were 10 years ago when we were young and watching them all the time. You can start a conversation about which cartoons he loved watching when he was little and why he liked them so much. You can also go on to talk about which ones you wish were still being made today even though they stopped airing years ago. It’s a great topic because it brings you back to a simpler, more fun time and he’ll like the light-hearted conversation.

  1. Favorite Movies

You can’t deny that you have a favorite movie – maybe even 5! I bet your boyfriend has just as many favorite movies that he’d love to spend hours talking about with you. Just ask him what his favorite movies are and this will strike up a conversation about stuff he loves to talk about. You may even have some new movies to watch because he’ll require that you do! This will also help you get to know him better by knowing what his tastes are.

  1. Fictional Worlds You Wish Were Real

If you’re anything like me then you love getting lost in fictional worlds via books or movies. There are HUNDREDS of different worlds that people have created just out of their imagination and I’m sure there’s more than one that you wish was real. You can talk about all of those and even ask him if there are any he would rather live in than the current world. Fantasizing about different alternate realities is a really fun way to get a conversation going in a creative and fun way.

  1. Your Dreams and Goals

This is a more serious topic to get on but it’s a great way to get to know your boyfriend better and have a really long talk. Talk about your dreams and deepest desires. Everyone has an image of how they want their life to be and you can ask your boyfriend what he sees himself pursuing. Sometimes this can let you know exactly what’s important in their life and what they need to do to get there. You may even be able to help him along the way if he uncovers enough details about what he wants to do in his life.

  1. Your Most Embarrassing Moments

We’ve all had them and we all get a good laugh from talking about them. No matter what has happened to you – even the most embarrassing thing in the world – you should talk about it with your boyfriend. Not only will he think it’s hilarious, but you’ll also get to hear about his most embarrassing moment and laugh right along with him. This can clue you into the torments of his childhood and even the kinds of things he gets really embarrassed about.

  1. What Superpower You Wish You Had

I know I’ve fantasized about what superpower I wish I had about a million times over. Have you ever thought about what you wish you could do if you lived in a superhero universe? I bet your boyfriend has! Asking him about what his superpower would be is a great way to start an interesting conversation about living in an alternate universe. You can even get to know why he would rather have a certain superpower and if he would be good or evil in another universe!

  1. Your Biggest Fears

No matter how tough and how strong you are, you have a fear and you have some really big fears. I urge you to talk about your biggest fears with your boyfriend and ask him about his own big fears. Even though he might not be forthcoming about his fears, after hearing yours he’ll be more likely to share. This is a great way to understand what bothers him and what he’s perfectly okay with. This can also help you prank him for some fun if he has funny little fears!

  1. Why Your Best Friend is the Best

You have a best friend, I have a best friend, and your boyfriend has a best friend, too. The thing about your best friends is that they’re in your life almost as much as your boyfriend and it’s important for him to understand why they’re so great. So talk about why your best friend is the best and ask them what’s so special about their best friend too. This can not only allow you to get to know their friend better – which is really important – but it also shows you what qualities about someone is important to them.

  1. What You Think About the Future

This can be related to the future with your relationship or just what your separate futures look like. Ask him about his big plans for life and what his main vision for the future looks like. This can also bring you to a topic on futuristic life and what inventions you think will develop by then. It’s a fun topic that can also be serious and helps you get to know your boyfriend better.

Finding different topics to talk about with your boyfriend can be hard sometimes. Luckily we’ve put together a perfect list that will start many conversations so you’ll never be bored talking to your boyfriend.
