What Does It Mean When You Dream About Someone Trying to Hurt You?

By on May 9, 2018

They say that dreams are your mind’s way of trying to tell you something — a message from the deep subconscious. Not everyone believes that, of course, but even those who believe dreams mean nothing at all, will still feel uncomfortable after waking from a bad one.

Dreams of Being Attacked

Being attacked can mean in both a physical or a mental way — either full-on altercations with someone or being attacked in a verbal form, via internet trolling, for example.

Both of these — physical altercations and cyber-bullying — can leave a person feeling victimised and as though the people around them are trying to attack them. If you are currently experiencing a similar situation in real life, your dreams could just be projected thoughts and fears — what you worry about happening in real life.

In many cases, when you dream of being attacked, it isn’t because you are physically or mentally being attacked by someone else, but more that there is an ‘attack’ or battle going on within yourself. You could be battling with a lack of control, for example, which is making you feel vulnerable and almost prey-like.

Being attacked in a dream could also mean that you are feeling defensive about something. Perhaps there is a little situation going on in your life that you feel like everyone else is trying to destroy, but you are trying to save and protect. One might feel this way when family or friends disapprove of a dating choice, or with other life decisions.

Who Started It?

When you take a look at the bigger picture, you may realise that it isn’t YOU being attacked, but rather someone else being defensive as a result of your attacking actions. If you started the attack, again, it doesn’t mean that you are going to physically attack someone, but more that you are self-sabotaging — giving everything up for the sake of a new relationship, perhaps? Self-sabotage can come in many forms, but if you feel conflicted about a situation, not knowing whether or not it is the right one for you, that could be the reason you are dreaming of being attacked.

How Are You Being Attacked?

The smaller components of a dream can often make up the bigger picture, so you will want to pay close attention to HOW you are being attacked in the dream, and not just by whom.

Dreaming about being stabbed, for example, can often mean that you are going through a tough situation — stressful times.

Dreaming about being stabbed in the back, on the other hand, can mean that you are stabbing yourself in the back — ignoring your own gut instinct or voice to do something that might not be a great choice for you.

What Does It Mean When You Dream About Someone Trying to Hurt You? 1

Being chased in a dream can mean something else entirely from being stabbed. If someone is chasing you with the intention of attacking you (or that is what you believe), it could mean that you are running away from something you should be dealing with in a more head-on way. Maybe you are avoiding conflicts with friends because you just don’t want to ruin their relationship and tell them that their boyfriend is playing away?

Who is Attacking You?

Going back to the dreams of being stabbed, the person who is doing the hurtful action can portray a message. Being stabbed or attacked by a partner could mean that you feel betrayed by that person, although, it might not mean in quite the way you think. Yes, there is a chance that you feel insecure and suspect that your partner may be playing away, but there is also a bigger chance that your dream is trying to reflect a slightly different message. Maybe your partner is doing something that you don’t agree with, and you have decided to keep your mouth shut about it? Or you haven’t yet brought it up with him and are scared to?

Again, dreams are usually a reflection of what is going on in our own REAL lives. It’s not a mirror image and shouldn’t be taken as such (you are probably not going to get physically attacked just because you have been in a dream), but if you just so happen to get weird dreams around the same time that you have a personal crisis, you’ve found your answer.

Are you running away or avoiding something? It’s time to tackle it.

I had a dream that my current boyfriend was cheating and when he realized that I knew and I confronted his lover he became angry and I was able to tell that he had the intentions to hurt me. I started to run away and as the dream kept on he would always find my location. He pointed a gun to my face and he also ended up cutting my left arm with a blade 3 times while I was trying to get away. I felt fear and disappointment to know that the person I love was trying to hurt me and had intentions to kill me.. anyone know what this may mean? Our relationship is normal. We rarely argue we have never gotten physical nor close to getting physical. We love each other very much and we’ve been dating for a year now. I am we are ten years apart.

When you love someone deeply, it is only natural that you fear what would happen if they left you. Many dreams like this are because of this reason, so it probably doesn’t reflect on any real concern that you have about his fidelity. Instead, it just shows that you love your boyfriend deeply and don’t want him to ever be parted from you.

I had a dream where my boyfriend and I had a small disagreement and he turned violent! He was chasing me but I made it to a car and locked myself inside. He was walking around the car trying to bust the windows out to get to me. I went into hiding but I was wanting to text him to talk to him to find out why things suddenly went wrong because the issue was not that serious but I was scared to contact him because I didn’t want the police to know I was still in contact with him! I’m confused yet concerned.

You may feel like there is something you or your boyfriend wants to bring up and discuss, but your subconscious mind is afraid of what the response will be. The dream probably doesn’t mean you are concerned about a physically violent response, just an upset response.

It is possible that this person in your dream was a reflection of social concerns that you may be navigating in your life. If you find that you are dealing with a stress at this time, then ensure that you share your positive energy at all times.

The dream may reflect the things you have seen in the media. It is also possible that you feel like there is some kind of outside force or unknown influence in your life that is causing negativity.

I had a dream that one of my coworkers was in school with me and she kept trying to kill me. She tried to run me over with a car, she tried to set me on fire, she tried to stab me and all. After all that somehow they didn’t expel her from the school and they kept her in the same class as me. I kept trying to tell the teachers and principals and other classmates that she wasn’t safe and she was attacking me and everyone kept telling me to leave her alone. In the end of the dream I find out that my oldest sister was the one pulling the strings from the very beginning and she was the mastermind behind the murder attempts and everyone thinking I was crazy at school. What does this mean.

The dream seems to show a fear that the people closest to you don’t have your best interests at heart. It is also possible that you may feel conflicting feelings about your sister, or you may subconsciously feel as if she has conflicted feelings regarding you as well.

I just woke up from a dream. In my dream I was being attacked by a group whom I don’t know and they wanted to shoot me. A realistic human looking robot was beside me, doing everything he can to protect me. He held my heart and other parts of me that was vulnerable to be shoot at so that I won’t die when they try to shoot me in those parts and hit his hands instead. In my dream I was very inlove with him, because for me, he isn’t a robot but a human because he looks, sounds, and feels like one. I’m just so confused of what my dream means.

The dream may show a fear of the outside world or a concern that there are forces out there that you can’t control. You may wish that there was someone who wasn’t affected by the negativity or danger of everything, but you realize that this is not normal for any human being, which is why the person was robot-like in your dream.

I had a dream that I was on the train and the train pulled off but the doors were still opened. A stranger started calling my name but she sounded very sad when she kept calling me. In the dream I thought that she was probably calling me to make sure I didn’t fall out the door while the train was moving. But then another stranger kept calling my name in a very sad and depressing tone and she just kept telling me to drink some water. In my head I’m like “how does she know my name”. But then I try taking a drink of water from my water bottle. As I’m about to drink, the second stranger says my name again in a sad voice and says “I’m going to murder you”. I get scared because now the train doors are closed and I see her reaching for my neck with a knife and then I wake up. What could this mean ?

The dream shows a desire to go on a journey, which may involve physical traveling or it may just be metaphoric for a journey of self-discovery. Either way, the dream also seems to show fear about the potential dangers or difficulties you may encounter along the way. Thankfully, a dream only shows your subconscious fears and desires, so it is unlikely that this exact scenario will happen in your real life.

I had a dream like I was walking to school, but I been graduated high school almost a decade ago. As I’m walking its raining really hard, a burgundy SUV driving the opposite direction I was walking, had beep their horn and I seen one guy driving , and a guy said something and I wave my hand like “whatever.” I had watch them for some reason because I felt like they was coming back. So I close my umbrella. The SUV parked the car on a side street and I seen at least 4 people in the car. A guy came out trying to get my number and I was asking all these questions like “why you want it” so I was pretending to dial his number in my phone and I notice he tried to attack me, and somehow he was holding my arm pushing my down while I was calling my mother name. As this is happening, I saw a lady walking pass. And as I’m going down I notice the point on the bottom of the umbrella and I woke up. I’m just confused and the fact I remember the car, faces, the number he gave me, everything. It was just too weird. I dont know if I was about to stab him with the umbrella or what?

Perhaps the dream just means you want to take charge and be capable of protecting yourself in your waking life. You may feel like there are dangers lurking around you, and you are uncertain if your friends or family members will be able to protect your from them on their own.

I have had a number of dreams recently where my husband has attacked me. Most have been that he attacked me by smothering and raping me in our bed and most recently I dreamt he was starting to strangle me in our bed. I experience extreme fear during the dreams. The last two occasions I managed to push back and say stop and came to not long after. Any ideas what this means?

The dream may represent some underlying conflict or fear of your husband. Perhaps your mind has picked up on mannerisms that he has exhibited recently that make you think he is in an angry mood. Thankfully, this dream shows subconscious feelings and thoughts, so these activities are unlikely to happen in real life.

I have a recurring dream that I’m in my house, usually talking to someone I know. Last night, it was my husband. My husband says to be quiet, and all of a sudden a man appears out of nowhere (last night he walked out of the closet) looking very confused like he doesn’t know where he is. This is never a person I know in real life. He has a very dazed look on his face and last night he even said “where am I.” In my dream, I become terrified because a stranger is somehow in my house. His confusion seems to be a trick however, because then, another man appears behind me, and grabs me. That’s usually when I wake up. Any ideas on what this could mean?

The dream most likely reflects your own fears. When you care about someone deeply, it is only natural that you would be afraid of losing them. Most likely, this is the reason why you had this dream, so it is unlikely that the circumstances in your dream will actually happen in your waking life.

I had a dream I was being followed, I tried to get the fbi involved but for some reason the person keeps slipping from under their grasp and out of reach every single time. They didn’t harm me directly, but there were many times I went to hang out with people in my dreams, most likely friends or something bc they aren’t real people, one minute they are fine, next minute they don’t know where they’re at or who they are or what’s going on. It’s super weird!

I had a dream that I was in a house ( the house looked unfamiliar) . I was seated in a chair when someone rung the door twice. Being concerned since it was late at night, I grabbed a knife and warned someone else that was also in the home with me that someone was present. I couldn’t see who the person in the house with me was. However they too jogged to a room that was pitch dark leaving me to see the bottom half of their legs since they were light in pigment. I then walk to the door and opening it looked momentarily onto the well lit porch through the storm door. I didn’t see the visitor so I then pushed open the door, turned my head left to look, and just as I turned my head right a menacing woman then lunged at me. Her face was frightening and the knife that I attempted to wield failed as I felt my body go limp knowing that I would not win. I remember feeling helpless but more importantly weak. I woke up right away and felt the sensation of the hair on my right standing up rigid. Mind you this is the same arm that was weakly holding the knife. Now two days later I am still able to remember the contents of this dream and no matter what I google I am not able to find out the meaning of it.

The dream may mean you fear that someone may attack you or try to harm you directly or indirectly. Most likely, the harm is not actually a physical injury. The fact that your knife arm was the one that went weak may symbolize that you fear that you will not be able to defend yourself from this attack or repulse it. Thankfully, a dream only reflects your own subconscious thoughts and desires, so your real-life outcome should be much better than in the dream.

I’ve been having nightmares more and more lately and they all been different, yet extremely the same. I’d be out with my friends, whether to the movies or out to eat when these guys approach us and start acting all weird. When we avoid them I always somehow end up seperated from my friends and one of the guys(who never show their face) follows me. This time they followed me to the bathroom and when u hid in a stall it had 2 doors I had to lock, but later found a third door I forgot to lock that he rammed open. I keep having to fight then off of me and running to find help but every person I see screams and runs away, too scared to help me. Eventually I find my friends and they’re also fighting to not get kidnapped. By the end of the dream it’s total blood bath and we kill all but one guy and I end up with a broken nose or jaw and multiple stab wounds.

These dreams may be indications of the violent media that you may consume. You are aware of recent shootings and other violent events. If you have similar dreams in the future, then address the people who are chasing you regarding their purpose within the dream.

The dream seems to show inner turmoil and emotional trauma that you are trying to work through. It is also possible that you have watched movies or shows that have caused these kinds of thoughts to come up. You can try to work out whatever is troubling you in your waking life to see if that helps. If it doesn’t, try working out more before bed because it is less likely that you will dream at night if you are super exhausted. Good luck!
