What Does It Mean When You Dream About Someone Dying?

By on January 21, 2016

Death is unfortunately just another part of life. Like birth, it is a stage that happens in everyone’s life. In addition, everyone holds in common the trait of dreaming at night. Dreams are thought to show that your mind is healthy and interacting around you. When you get enough sleep at night, you will dream even if you do not remember the dreams. During some of these dreams, you may experience a loved one or someone else dying. Although this can be terrifying to experience during the dream, it is generally not a sign that someone is going to die. Instead, death is normally interpreted as one of the following dream meanings.

death 1

What Does Mean When You Dream About Someone Dying?

Dreams related to death can be extremely intense and traumatic to experience. You may wake up feeling panicked or worried about your loved one who died in the dream. Although this can be stressful to experience, it is normally not a sign that you should panic. There are many possible reasons why you may dream about death at night.

You Feel Afraid

Fear and feelings of being afraid are extremely common themes for your dreams. You may feel afraid of losing someone, and that could be the reason why you are dreaming of death. Likewise, death-related dreams may be caused by terrible childhood memories or phobias of water, public speaking, heights or similar things. Your mind is imprinted by the fears that you have, and your subconscious brings up this sensation of fear during your dreams.

Death 3

Feelings of Guilt

After a terrible experience, you may feel guilty about your role or your lack of a role. Even if you were not involved in the situation, you may feel guilty about not being able to help. This is especially true after the death of a loved one. Even though there is no reason for you to feel guilty, it is common for these types of feelings to develop. When this happens, you may continue to have dreams about death.

You Feel Betrayed

One of the common reasons for seeing death in a dream is because you feel betrayed. You may dream that the person or people who betrayed you die for their betrayal. In this case, the dream is a sign that you want vengeance and remain upset by their actions.

Your Personality Is Incomplete

Sometimes, there are people who have too much control in your life. If a loved one is domineering and makes decisions for you, you may feel that they are dying as a way for your subconscious to escape from their control.

There Is a Psychological Disturbance

Your mind is not intended to be in a constant state of stress. When you experience a traumatic situation, you can experience psychological and emotional disturbances for a long time afterward. Long-term psychological disturbances can end up taking root within your subconscious mind. When you fall asleep at night, these negative feelings intermingle with your dreams to create thoughts of death or other traumatic situations.

Transformations

A dream of death can be an indication of transformations in your normal life. In a way, death is a type of rebirth, so it is often a sign of a figurative or literal rebirth in real life. Like the phoenix, your new habits, relationships and goals are rising out of the ashes of your past. As a result, you may experience dreams about death when you are suddenly experiencing major changes and transformations in your real life.

A Fear of Loss

Even if you do not have a traumatic event or negative feelings in your current life, that does not stop you from fearing loss. When you love someone, it is normal to fear losing them. This fear is replayed in your dreams by the person, loved one or family member actually dying. Don’t worry though—it is not a sign of the future or what is currently happening to them.

You Could Be Pregnant

Although there is no proof of this idea, a number of people have reported dreaming of death before or right after they get pregnant. This may be due to a more literal interpretation of death as a type of rebirth.

You Are Not Living Up to Your Potential

When you are not fulfilling your dreams and living up to your potential, you may feel guilty or unhappy. These feelings may result in you dreaming that you or someone else dies in the dream.

Negativity

At a very basic level, dreams of death could be a sign that you feel worthless, unhappy or exceptionally negative. These feelings cause your dreams to take a negative turn until you can become confident and happier in your normal life.

Instead of dreaming about someone dying, you may dream about someone who is already dead. One interpretation of this dream is that you feel like you are surrounded by people who do not really understand you. It could also mean that you are experiencing a material or personal loss that is effecting your outlook on the world.

Dead siblings in a dream is typically a sign that you miss spending time with your siblings. Meanwhile, dreaming of a dead parent or loved one talking to you is often a sign that you are trying to work through their death and come to terms with it. Dreams are often indications of what is going on in your mind, so they show that you are consciously or subconsciously concerned about a loved one who recently passed away.

If you see someone that is already dead, it is normally a sign that you miss that person. These dreams often occur around important anniversaries or during times when you are more likely to think about the person. Parents may also dream about a lost child because they want to keep them in their hearts. They may also dream about the child as an adult or graduating high school because they wish that they could see them grow up and have a happy life.

I have this friends with benefits situation in which I myself, a woman, is catching feelings although I am trying to consciously suppress it as often as I am able to. Subsequent to this, I’ve noticed that it’s brought very dark dreams… one of them being my friend with benefits “suddenly dying”. In the dream I am not particularly bothered, just shocked and surprised. Doesn’t help that there is also another “woman” in his life that I “happen” to somehow meet and discuss him in detail and each of our situations. Would you please interpret this dream? I am not actively seeking a relationship and do not want one with this particular man, so there is no next step in this situation, but the feelings are still unfortunately there. Please enlighten me.

    Thank you for your time.

Your feelings exist because of an influences in your life. You are aware that you do not want to nourish this relationship. Allow thoughts of this person to fade. Determine what is causing you to have these emotions in your life. It is possible that you are interested in nourishing a relationship with someone else. If you are current in a relationship, then spend additional time with your partner. Have a great day, NJM!

In my dream I was at a school of witchcraft & we were at a dinner and the utensils were on the floor for some reason. So I got on the floor looking for my fork because everyone else had forks and I didnt. But I had a ton of knifes to search through but somehow I got information that an old childhood friend was dead and thats why I didnt have forks? I immediately started breaking down in the dream and some people were empathetic and others were confused. What does this mean?

So I don’t know if this will do any good or help, but I’ve been trying my best to figure out what’s going on. I’ve been having the same reoccurring dream for 3 nights straight now, and to me it feels like the worse of all dreams possible… so its definitely been more like a nightmare. Every time I sleep, I’ve been having this nightmare that my daughter somehow dies by being ran over by a black limousine. I’ve figured that the timing is around prom for teens, as the people in the limo were suppose to be going to prom. Every time, every single thing in the nightmare is exactly the same. Location, what everyone’s wearing, the color of the limo, the weather…literally everything. Its bothering me, because it does look as if it is something that can happen in actuality. Now all I feel is that I want to keep my daughter away from every single black limousine that I see…and honestly at this point, I’m really not sure what to do. Anything would be helpful at this point.

I’ve been having so many dreams of death for the past couple weeks. And sometimes it’s about my parents and sometimes people I don’t know. Or sometimes it’s the same dream but with more detail like for example the dream can start off with my dad and my husband talking and driving but then it changes and I’m in this apartment and it has many doors and I open every door and every room is different some dirty, some old, some with children toys and with people I don’t know inside the rooms. But then I go outside urgently looking for my “sister” even thought I don’t have a sister in real life, and I’ve seen that she has been murdered and I run inside looking for help and then I go to my “ brothers” (I don’t have a brother either) room grab his phone and call 911 but it doesn’t send me to 911, the “murderer” answers and says something and i hang up and try 911 again and the same things happens and he says something that tells me he’s outside the apartment. So I try to wake up my “brother” but he doesn’t wake up so I try locking and blocking the door and closing the curtains and hide under the bed and when the murderer breaks down the door I wake up in terror and sweaty all over. I’ve been having this same dream a few times now and other different dreams. What could
    It mean ?
