How To Tell Someone You Love Them (10 Ways)

By on December 17, 2013

Dropping the L bomb is one of the most critical and crucial points in any relationship. It’s a defining moment that will decided whether you and your partner continue on the road you’re on and ride off into the sunset together or whether you’ll both go your separate ways and pretend the last few months never happened.

I’m not going to sit here and explain how you know you’re in love and how long it takes to fall in love. Love is different in every relationship – for some it takes weeks, others months and some years to feel it. One thing that doesn’t vary however is how you feel when it happens. If you’ve been in love before, you’ll know what I’m talking about. When love comes, you won’t feel confused or fret over whether or not it’s real. Trust your gut and if it says it’s love, then it is.

Whether you’re in love for the very first time or have been here a few times before, finally saying the L word to your guy is a nerve-wracking experience. It doesn’t matter how many times you say it in your head or how much you feel like singing it from the rooftops, it’s one of the hardest things to say aloud. That’s why I’ve done some thinking and come up with some simple, sweet and romantic ideas to help you get how you’re feeling out in the open.

One – Let Him Say It First

Okay, so I cheated a little bit here. This is probably the cowards way out seeing as you don’t have to be the first one to say the words but in my opinion it’s a classic. Sure, it’s great to let your man know how you feel first and show you have courage but it’s also one of the best feelings in the world hearing him say it to you. Your heart will just melt when it happens.

Two – Enjoy The Moment

Sometimes the best way to tell someone you love them is just to let it happen in it’s own time. Stop thinking about when and where you’re going to tell your man you love him and let it happen naturally. If you love him as much as I imagine you do, the words will just slip out in their own time anyway.

Three – Be Bold

I’ll admit I’ve put this in for a bit of fun but for the colorful, eccentric souls out there this could be perfect. Write it on a banner and stand outside his house, shout it as he’s walking away from your door. Be loud. Be fearless. If it’s your quirky personality he likes about you, he’s sure to love this.

Four – Say It With A Kiss

What could be better than enjoying a long, romantic kiss. You pull apart and you rest your forehead against his, his hands are holding yours and you’re both looking into each others’ eyes. Then you say it. Oh, my heart is melting just thinking about this!

Five – Say It At The Door

If you’ve just enjoyed a wonderful night together and you’re about to part ways, now could be the perfect time to tell him how you feel. It will round off the night beautifully and he’ll be left thinking about you all through the night.

Six – Cheesy Does It

If you’re not up for a bit of cheese, I’d skip this tip completely. I once heard about a girl who had the words put in a fortune cookie which got me thinking, what about crackers and other such things? It’s maybe not the best way to put how you feel out there but certainly memorable.

Seven – Make An Analogy

If you can’t bring yourself to say the words out loud, make an analogy. You’re the sugar to my coffee, the sunshine to my sand – you get the idea!

Eight – Hire A Flash Mob

Once again, you’re probably thinking ‘what on Earth?’ but I swear to you this stuff does happen. Hiring an all singing, all dancing flash mob is sure to get the message across, just be sure your other half doesn’t embarrass easy.

Nine – Write It Down

You can use anything from simple notes to an entire beach here. Writing it down is often easier than saying the words out loud and more memorable and a possible keepsake for your partner.

Ten – Don’t Text Them!

I can’t stress this enough. Texting someone something so important is not the way to go. It’s impersonal and it holds no feeling. Doing the deed face to face will help your relationship more in the long run.

So there you have it! Ten ways to tell someone you love them. If you’re still nervous, good. It’s a nerve wracking experience but the results can be phenomenal.
