10 Shows Like Gossip Girl

By on April 24, 2015

Filled with high fashion, love and drama, Gossip Girl remains one of the most popular television shows. It centers around a group of wealthy teenagers. As you watch the show, you get to here the narration of “Gossip Girl”. Gossip Girl is a blogger, voiced by Kristen Bell, who exposes the dark secrets and hidden turmoil of the wealthy teenagers in the Upper East Side of New York City. If you loved watching this show, then you will love this list of ten shows like Gossip Girl.

one tree hill

One Tree Hill

It would be pointless to mention any list of top teenage shows without talking about One Tree Hill. This phenomenal show focuses on the story of two half-brothers. Although they are related, Lucas and Nathan could not be more different. Nathan is the jock in the family and is the captain of the Tree Hill Ravens basketball team. When Lucas makes the team, he resents the change. Even worse, Lucas starts to develop a crush for Nathan’s girlfriend. As feelings and motives get tangled, the drama really starts to heat up.

new girl

New Girl

Hopefully, you have already seen New Girl. This show is by far one of my favorites, and it has a comedy angle that Gossip Girl lacks. New Girl features the story of Jess. She is a 20-something year old woman who breaks up with her boyfriend. Needing a place to stay, she ends up with three male roommates that she met off of Craigslist. Hilarity ensues at every turn in this show. From Nick’s job as a bartender to the epic game called True American, this is one of those shows that you cannot afford to miss out on. If I had to pick my favorite show like Gossip Girl off of this list, it would have to be New Girl.

Started in 2006, Heroes ran until 2010. IN essence, this show revolves around a group of seemingly ordinary people who one day realize that they possess supernatural powers. In reality, Heroes does not have a lot in common with Gossip Girl, but it is still worth watching. It has a mixture of fantasy, superheros and young adult drama that is super enjoyable to watch.

Privileged is actually quite similar to Gossip Girl in its focus and the type of plot lines that it follows, After airing in 2008, it only lasted until 2009, which is fairly unfortunate considering how intriguing this show is. It stars a 23-year-old girl called Megan Smith. In the beginning of the show, she is a tabloid writer who wants to make it big in the real world of journalism. Before long, her lifestyle makes a drastic change when she meets the cosmetics executive, Laurel Limoges. Megan ends up getting fired from her tabloid writing job, so she takes a job offer from Laurel and moves to Florida. Once there, she becomes the live-in tutor to Laurel’s twins and life is never the same again.

make it or break it

Make It Or Break It

Make It Or Break It sounds like a show that could not make it more than a season or two, but it ran for years. IN the show, a group of top-tier gymnasts are focused on going to the London Olympics. They have been friends for years and are preparing for the games when a new girl joins the team. When their head coach is suddenly threatened with blackmail, the girls’ future is suddenly thrown into confusion. Drama, inspiration and heartfelt moments are just a few of the things that you can expect from this show.

Beverly Hills 90210

If you wanted a classic show that is similar to Gossip Girl, then you have to check out Beverly Hills 90210. It focuses around a family from Kansas that suddenly decide to move to Beverly Hills. The teenagers in the family, Annie and Dixie Wilson, are dragged along because their father wants to be closer to his alcoholic mom.

jersey shore

Jersey Shore

Technically, Jersey Shore is a reality television show, but really, how many reality shows are actually real? Just in case it counts as a drama, we have included this show on our list of ten shows like Gossip Girl. It goes above and beyond when it comes to sheer outrageous capers and drama. As you watch the show, you follow the plastic surgeries, drinking, speeding and partying of a group of young Italian-Americans. It may have gotten some bad press for how it portrayed Italian-Americans, but it is one of those shows that you just cannot look away from.

the o.c.

The O.C.

From 2003 to 2007, the O.C. Was one of the top shows on television. It centers around the story of Ryan Atwood. Raised in a broken home, he is adopted by Sandy and Kirsten Cohen. In the beginning, the viewer gets to watch young Ryan try to make the switch to living in a life of luxury in Newport Beach. It is a fun show to watch and has a few touching moments thrown into the mix.

pretty little liars

Pretty Little Liars

If you loved Gossip Girl, then you cannot miss out on Pretty Little Liars. This television show is actually based off of the novel by Sara Shepard called Pretty Little Liars. At the beginning of the show, you are introduced to a middle school clique of girls: Emily Fields, Spencer Hastings, Hanna Marin and Aria Montgomery. Immediately, you watch as their friend, Alison DiLaurentis, suddenly goes missing. The show then skips ahead in time to four years later when the girls are in high school. None of them are friends anymore, but they all start receiving mysterious text messages from an anonymous sender.

melrose place

Melrose Place

Melrose Place is the oldest show on this list, but it remains one of the best. In the show, we watch eight main characters who all live within Melrose Place in Los Angeles. They fall in love with each other, work toward their dream and get in fights. It is interesting to watch and highly addictive, so it is an excellent start to a weekend-long television show marathon.

I have watched Gossip Girl,90210,Privileged and Pretty Little Liars from the list. I think that a really “similar” one would be The secret life of the American Teenager! I really enjoyed that as well and Shailene Woodley stars on it! I recommend you give it a try :)

I’ve watched 90210 and GG and they were some of the best shows I have watched ever! However, pretty little liars in awesome. At first I thought it would be too creepy but it has the same plot lines as GG and 90210 and also Gossip Girl is basically Pretty Little Liars ‘A’ and if you don’t watch it, your totally missing out
